Chapter Twenty-Five
I stand in the corridor for a few minutes, many questions just kept swirling through my head. Does my mum regret leaving us? Does she ever think of us? Was she just going to allow us to believe she was dead forever? Did she know about her mate before but waited until she had no choice but leave? There are so many questions that I want to be answered, but I don't know if I'm ready to hear the answers yet.
I knew I had to somehow break the news to my family, but it's something I wouldn't want to over the phone. I have to figure out a way to talk to them face to face, without crossing any borders. I decide to text them we needed to talk as Cody walks down the hall, I send him a little smile while finishing sending the text.
"What did Scott want to talk to you about?" He asks looking rather tense, I wanted to tell him but I didn't know if I'd fully absorbed all the information myself yet.
Scott walks back out the office before I had the chance to reply to Cody, he clocks us straight walking hurriedly over to us. He looks tense as like Cody, I didn't know if they were tense about the same thing at that moment.
"I'm sorry if I'm interrupting but he have a major problem, there's a huge fight that's broke our back in town" he says which takes Cody by surprise, so I guess they're tense about different things "word got out that we're thinking of changing the way we do the annual feasts for the humans, many of the wolf pack members are up in arms annoyed and are arguing with the pack members who are mated to the humans, who think it's a good idea" Scott says while his phone starts blowing up once again, I thought they can mind-link so why are they all using phones?
"We're gonna have to head down there, do you wanna come?" Cody asks me while running to get something from the kitchen, it was my turn to be taken back surprised that he wants me to join him.
"Yeah of course" I say still a little surprised that he's letting me come, I realise I'm still holding the folder about my mum so I drop that off at the kitchen counter.
Once I reach the hall, Scott was already running down the path while Cody, had my coat in his arms. He helps me put it on while grabbing my hand in his, we now begin to rush out the door and down the steps of the house. Cody stops us for a second knelling down slightly in front of me, at first I was highly confused on what he wanted, wait he wants to give me a piggy back! I walk over jumping on his back and in no time we're off, this dude can cook, eat and run. In what would have taken us five minutes to walk, we ran in not even ten seconds.
As we get closer it's there we hear all the shouting, as we pass the pack house and turn to head towards the town we see it. A mob of people were just arguing back and forth, I somehow was getting a feeling from the crowd and it wasn't good. We either have to calm this lot down or we're gonna have to break a fight up, something I don't want to get in the middle of. Cody stops for a second letting me off his back, as soon as my feet hit the floor his hand was in mine pulling me towards the fight.
"You humans have just come into our home and are trying to change everything!" I hear one of the people shout, well it's not like we planned to move here beforehand and came up with a scheme to terrorise you.
"The only human I'm ever gonna respect is the Luna, the rest of ya I'll rip apart without a second thought" another shouts from somewhere else in the crowd, well at least I know they kind of respect me.
"Pack members!" Cody shouts in a voice I've never heard him use before, it held so much power.
The place soon falls silent and everyone turns to look at Cody, oh I know what he's done. The Alpha and all the higher ranking members can change their voices, when they do anyone who has been sworn into the pack will immediately like bow to their attention. Even if they don't want to their wolves will force them, I've just saw first hand that it works.
"It is true that we have been discussing changing parts of the feast, we have to accommodate for all the new pack members that have joined" Cody starts to say while some people start to shout again, these people really like their traditions "the Luna and I were speaking and she's just like you, she doesn't feel like we should change an event that the pack has been doing for generations, but I can't just ignore the new pack members and what will upset them" Cody says bringing me into the conversation, I mean that is what I said back at the house.
"See, the Luna is also a human and if she's okay with it, I don't see why the other humans can't deal with it too!" one of the men shouts getting angry all over again, well he's probably been angry the entire time.
These people don't seem like they're calming down, but actually getting even more riled up. I look to Cody who looked rather stressed even though he was trying to hide it, I guess he's the Alpha and he has to look calm in all situations. While as the Luna I can show emotion, maybe it's my turn to step up.
"Okay I think as a fellow human I can give my opinion, I understand fully how you guys must be feeling, we've been here for five minutes and we're already changing some big events that you've done for years, if that were to happen to me I'd be acting exactly the same way as you" I say getting all their attentions, even Cody looks over at me surprised that I've spoken "but you didn't allow the Alpha to explain what kind of changes were to happen, if you let me I have a few ideas" I say hoping they wouldn't try to start throwing things in my direction, I just wanted to help.
"Of course Luna, we'll hear anything you have to say" one of the former angry guys says calmly, that's a relief.
"First off, is it a must that you have to have this feast in that huge dining room in the pack house? How do you all fit in there in the first place and isn't this a time for your wolves to be well like wolves and hunt for their food?" I ask looking around at all of them, they start to give me confused looks but nod.
"They're hanging on her every word" I hear Scott whisper from behind me, I know shocking right?!
"Now I don't know a lot about wolves in the wild, but I'm pretty sure they don't hunt for their food in a fancy dining room, they would be out in the woods right?" I ask where I could see a few of them were starting to catch my drift "why don't we have the feast outside, we'll have a place set up on side of the event for your wolves to run wild and do what they do, with the other side being for the humans with food that won't run around. Once you've finished hunting your food you can come down to the human section, talk to us and eat some food that isn't running for it's life, that way we can all experience the event in a way we're comfortable with and the pack can start to get to know each other and not be at each other's throats?" I suggest hoping my idea would go down well, in reality I was just making the idea up as I went along.
The crowd was silent for awhile just looking at each other, but they soon begin to cheer and start to agree with my idea. Phew now that was a huge relief! I take a look to Cody who had his arms crossed smiling towards me.
"And that's how it's done" I smile getting closer to him where he wraps his arm around me, now all the fighting voices were excited voices talking over plans with each other.
"If we want to make the Luna's amazing idea pan out, we're gonna have to start setting it all up, let's go!" Cody says in his deep voice again, immediately the mob starts to disperse to do a different jobs "the incredible Luna's amazing idea, that was amazing Erika" Cody smiles holding me tightly.
"No time for hugs, let's go!" I say pulling him by the arm towards the pack house, we had so much to do!
