Chapter Thirty-Two

My jaw could have hit the floor when those words came out of his mouth, yes I was thinking it but it's a different thing to hear him actually confirm it. I wasn't the only person that looked gobsmacked, everyone on that side of the border had the exact expression on their faces. I now look at Cody who was just staring at me, this obviously wasn't new information for him. "I wanted to tell you but we couldn't risk Reece's safely" he whispers leaning down by my ear, I just send him a little smiling telling him it was okay, it wasn't really for him to tell me but Reece and if he was okay with me knowing. I turn to Justin who slowly took something from his pocket, without warning he pulls a gun out but within a second, Reece was already over the border. "You dare fire that gun at a member of my pack who is within my border, you will not like the war that will erupt" Cody growls deeply looking in the eyes of Justin, that is the rules they set up when this all started. Justin takes a look to Reece all angry still holding the gun up, my dad clears his throat which is what makes him point the gun back to the floor. Justin kind of backs off as my dad walks up, making sure not to cross the border like Reece just did. "I hope you understand Reece, now you have crossed the border you are not allowed to return, if you do you will be killed on sight" my dad says laying down the law, I just roll my eyes looking down at the floor "the same goes for you Erika, you've shown your true colours now" my dad tells me spitefully which at first does upset me but I shake it off, I look him dead in the eyes and shrug my shoulders, I didn't care. "Well I guess if I'm not allowed back I might as well tell you, I'm Cody's mate" I smirk looking at Cody who I could tell was so happy I actually just said that, while my dad and Justin looked shocked snd horrified "you might have said that to hurt me in some way, but I'm where I belong with who I belong with, oh and just a heads up I found mum, she's also living with her mate, how weird right?" I ask sweetly but laugh again, his face was a picture serves him right I say. My dad points at me than looks to the floor, I could see the tears building up in his eyes as he spoke. He needed to find out about mum some way or another, maybe this approach wasn't the best. Ethan now walks out from the crowd fully crying, I didn't even know he was there now I really regret telling him like that. "You're leaving us just like mum" he cries quietly looking at me with sad, Reece turns around sending me a smile knowing how bad I was feeling. "To be honest she doesn't have much of a choice, you know if she had the option to go from this pack and your town she would, but your dad being the strict dictator has made that impossible" Reece says defending me like he always does, I didn't know how I would make this better so I was thankful he was. "We don't want a person like you in the town anyway, I've always said you're just like your mother, a self-centred spineless bitch!" My dad shouts which does take me by surprise, well that's a lovely character reference. Everyone from my side start to growl, even Scott. They all trained their eyes on my dad who looked as though he was regretting calling me any names, they were pretty hurtful. Cody walks forward looking as though he was gonna cross the border, Justin pulls his gun up which causes me to grab Cody by the arm to stop. "You ever talk about my mate like that again, I will rip you apart limb by limb" he growls his eyes now a scary dark colour, I knew this meant his wolf had fully taken over and was ready to attack. "He isn't worth it, even ripping him limb from limb would be too good for him" I say pulling Cody back more and standing in front of him, I wasn't as strong as him but he wouldn't barge passed me in anyway "what I said back there is still hundred percent the truth, I don't even know who you are anymore Richard" I remark calling him by his name and not dad, it felt so wrong but he wasn't acting like the dad I knew growing up. "The only reason you are where you are is because of mum, her family founded this town and because you got married they moved you up to police chief. But what you're forgetting is mum is still the leader of this town and calls all the shots, I don't know how but I'm gonna find a way to get you out of your position so you can't hurt anymore people" I say honestly, still having no idea how I was gonna make that idea come to light but I had do so something. "That would mean your mother would have to come back to town and we all know the rules, that doesn't look like it's gonna happen" my dad laughs not taking me serious at all, this just makes the feeling to do what he says I can't do get stronger, it's happening "how I loved this family reunion, but I must get going and sort things at town out, like cleaning the garbage from the lake" he smirks looking over at me, I knew he was talking about Woodcutter Tom, who definitely is not garbage. With that he and the rest of his posey turn and walk away, the only one that stays behind is Ethan. He stood at the edge of the border just staring at me with sad eyes, I can read him like a book so I knew exactly what he was thinking. He thinks he's lost me like he did mum but unlike mum, I'm not gonna stop until I'm able to come back to see him. "I'll find a way Erika, you know I will" he says before he too turns and follows everyone walking away. Whenever I leave that town I'm always worried that I'll miss it, but I've never felt like that at all. I belong where I am right with Cody and everyone in the pack, I've had zero urge to go back. But this is the first time I've saw Ethan since I left, we've never been apart before this at all, he's the thing that's making me sad that I can't go back. "Are you sure you checked everywhere?" Scott asks snapping me out of my thoughts, Reece turns giving me an annoyed look. "Can you stop going on about Martha for five minutes?! She does this all the time, you know I bet she's back in town here!" He exclaims finally losing his tempter, it takes a lot for that to happen. "You better watch what comes out your mouth when it involves my mate" Scott growls back taking steps towards Reece, I take a look to Cody if he was gonna do anything but he looks like he's still calming down. "You both need to watch what comes out of your mouths, I know tensions are high and you must be worried sick Scott, but what Reece is saying is true. We've known Martha for most of ours lives, she does this a lot, she makes everyone worry when really she's at home all along. Why don't you run ahead and go scan the town, she'll probably be sitting at home waiting for you?" I smile standing in front of Reece now, he is also someone I know won't just push passed me but also, Scott won't try and attack if I'm stood in the way. Scott agrees running off towards the main part of town to look for her, Cody walks over placing a kiss on my head telling me he had to sort some work out. "I'll look after her Cody, you know I will" Reece smiles wrapping his arm around my shoulders, Cody smiles with a nod before he too runs off towards the direction of the pack. "You have a lot of explaining to do" I tell him with my arms crossed, he laughs a nervous laugh starting to lead me away from the border and towards town. "Let's get you home and into some warm dry clothes first" he says as I turn back to look at the town border, where I'm forbidden from entering.
