Chapter 38
"Is there something wrong? Why are you looking at me like that, Elyana?" Felicity caught me when I was looking at him intently.
We were in the dining area having dinner at that time, and when he asked, I looked away as fast as I could to avoid his gaze. I tried to put my attention on the food on my plate and acted like I didn't hear what he said, but knowing him, there was no escaping.
I saw from my periphery how he put his fork down and wiped the corner of his lips with his pinky finger that was slightly raised. I tried to shift my attention to Quintin, who joined us that night for dinner. Although he was busy praising our cook and flirting with the young maids.
"If you're wondering what those suitcases are for, those are my things. If you want to know why, how, what, and who told me to bring those here... well, your parents did," he explained, raising his left eyebrow.
That was the same moment I looked at him. I wanted to ask why, but he continued talking with the answers I needed.
"They both asked me to stay here while you heal your wounds. You don't want them to come home, so I'll be the one who will be their proxy. I guess they haven't told you yet."
I frowned. I was pretty surprised that my parents asked him that favor, which he agreed to. Knowing how busy he was in his matchmaking agency, the hectic schedule every day, and the distance of our mansion to the building where his agency was located, it was a real hassle for him.
"Woah! Can I also take my things here? That would be awesome. I can watch over you when Felicity is busy, you know," Quintin interrupted. When I turned to face him, I saw a grin at the corner of his lips. I heard our maids giggle as if he would stay in the mansion with us.
"You can—but if you would, you need to follow certain rules, and you're not allowed to let any girls in," I answered with a grin.
"Well, that's a bit insulting. I'm not that kind of man anymore. I already changed!" Quintin uttered in a boastful manner, and he even widely smiled after.
"You already changed? Like when?" I teased.
There was something in his smile, but what caught my attention was how his eyes looked bright that day, and it seemed he was in love.
'Is he?' I thought.
"What's with that smile? Are you in love, Quintin?" I inquired, and his smile grew wider. "O-M-G! You are, and you haven't told me yet?"
"Well, Felicity knows," he answered, looking at Felicity, who had already gone back to his food, and because the gay didn't show any reaction, Quintin went back to me. "He didn't tell you?"
"Unfortunately, he hasn't mentioned it, but who is this unlucky girl, and why does it seem I'm the last one to know things?"
The curiosity level I had at the time was high above the roof, and the smile on Quintin's face was affecting it so badly that I couldn't wait to hear about it.
"Come on, who is she? I know you have a lot of women left and right." I persisted when he hadn't answered it yet.
"I want to keep it a secret for now—"
"No! Tell me!" I immediately protested.
"That's final, girl!" Quintinsaind said, imitating Felicity's hand gestures and voice. He even raised his eyebrow to look more accurate; however, when Felicity heard and saw Quintin impersonating him, and when their eyes met, Quintin got scared of how my best friend looked at him.
I couldn't control my laughter at that time, and I let out a chuckle. They looked furrowed as they turned their heads towards me, but the laughter was truly uncontrollable at that moment.
I could feel my face burning already. I bit my lower lip to stop the laughter and held my breath until I completely calmed down. When I looked around, I saw everyone's eyes were on me. They were smiling, and I saw awe in the maids' eyes as my laughter mesmerized them. I felt so shy, but in my heart, there was warmth.
There was silence for a few seconds, and because I was too awkward with how they stared at me, I broke the silence by inviting them to go back to our food and telling the maids to grab their plates and join us.
After dinner, I invited the two to the garden for a chat. Gladly, none of them insist.
According to Quintin, the girl's name is April. Felicity laughed because, at first, he thought the older woman was Quintin's type. After all, that was his client and not April, who was the daughter of an old woman who wanted to find another chance with love after being widowed for 20 years.
I couldn't stop laughing when I heard how Quintin approached Felicity about the girl when we accidentally met in the restaurant before. I remember a gorgeous woman that day, but I didn't even feel that Quintin was eyeing the lady that day.
'It seems the playboy finally found his match,' I thought while I continued laughing with them.
"How many women have you brought home, Quintin? April would surely get disappointed once she learned," Felicity teased. "Her mother seems strict and religious. It's going to be a problem with you if ever," he added.
"Honestly, I don't count it, and you're right, I remember she used to serve at the church too," Quintin answered, and he seemed worried.
"Does that even matter? As long as you show him you're into her and you don't have an eye for many women—what?" I paused when I noticed how they stared at me.
"I agree with you," Felicity uttered with a smile.
"Me too, but I only have an eye for her!"
"Maybe now, how about tomorrow? Next week? If you want to settle down just like your father wants you to, you need to make everything permanent," I uttered.
"That's too much." Quintin furrowed. I knew my words might hurt him, but that was better than tolerating his wrongdoing.
"Even though you're my friend, I still doubt your judgments, and she seems like a good person just for you to hurt."
"I don't have a plan to hurt her," he replied.
"I hope so because I will never tolerate a man with numbers 2, and 3, and a long list of side chicks. Never!"
"Do I look doubtful? I mean it when I say I'm serious about her." He walked a little closer to Felicity like he was asking him for help, but I don't think Felicity will be his rest back.
"I'm just being honest, and I won't say sorry for that. If you want to change, change for the better. You will only make the woman cry if you eventually go back to what you used to do after a month of being with her. You will only hurt her, Quintin," I told him.
Quintin was in profound silence. Maybe he was thinking about my words, and I was silently hoping that he would reflect on them. I knew how much it hurts to be cheated on, and worse, to witness it with my own two eyes.
A few seconds of silence went on, and when I was about to apologize, Quintin's phone suddenly rang.
He took it inside his pocket to check who it was. I couldn't see who, but his expression that shifted into something I would say frightening caught my eye. I saw how he gritted his teeth, but what confused me the most was when he tried to hide his phone screen away from me, and he immediately excused himself.
"Who do you think was that calling? Is he in some kind of trouble, or did he mention anything happening to him lately, Felicity?" I asked the gay, hoping my concerns would get answered, but unfortunately, he didn't know anything.
"Can I leave you for a minute here? I will just check my phone if my secretary needs something for tomorrow," Felicity asked.
"Sure, go on. I'll be fine here," I responded, and he left.
