Chapter 48.2
"L-Lucas…" she answered. It was low, like a whisper, but Felicity heard it.
He was right. He concluded that Lucas was the reason why her best friend was in pain again. He knew he would try to reach out to hear anything any day, but he didn't expect it to be that soon.
They stayed like that for a few minutes until Elyana calmed down. She felt safer in his arms, and the way Felicity caressed her hair down to her back was comforting, which helped a lot.
"Wait—this will help reduce your bad mood," Felicity exclaimed. He remembered the cheesecake he had brought home for her.
He took it to the bedside table to show it to her while smiling brightly.
"Let's stress eat this and think of what to do to that stupid person later!" he loudly muttered.
Elyana stared at him blankly, letting out a small smile because Felicity's facial expression and the way he yelled were something she found funny.
"Wait! We don't have a spoon!" Felicity panicked when he opened the box of sweet treats.
He rushed outside like a child, barefoot, and went downstairs to get them a spoon. She wasn't in the mood to eat, but since Felicity was gone, she couldn't insist anymore; she thought the smell coming from the box was inviting, and she had no strength anymore to fight it after crying.
While waiting for her best friend, she suddenly thought how lucky she was to have him. For her, Felicity may be gay, but the way he cared for her was more than a best friend and a big sister.
Elyana couldn't stop thinking, what if Felicity wasn't gay? Would they still be that close, or would there be too much awkwardness between them, especially at those moments when he already saw her naked?
She stopped asking herself when Felicity returned, bringing two spoons, glasses, and pitchers of cold water in a silver tray. He was panting but still smiling. He placed the tray on the rectangular center table of the white leather sofa, set quite far from Elyana's bed.
"Come here, girl. I don't want ants to go crawling on your bed in case we make a mess there," he called his friend. "Oh my! I forgot to bring a saucer." He slapped his forehead.
Elyana stood up from her seat and walked toward him. "Don't mind, let's eat here in the box," Elyana suggested.
She knew Felicity was already tired. It was evident from the sweat on his face and neck after returning to her room.
To show that she was ready to eat from the box, she pulled the box of cheesecake closer to where she chose to sit. Using the spoon, she scooped out the cheesecake like ice cream and ate it. The mere taste of the cheesecake was quite surprising. It brought instant relief to her mind because of its sweetness, like magic.
"It seems Aunt Eugene's cheesecake is an effective antidote for someone in a bad mood," she said, making her laugh a little as she swallowed the remaining sweetness left inside her mouth.
"Oh well, I would agree to that. This is the cure! Sadly, you only discovered it now. I've known it for a long time, girl," Felicity boastfully answered, making them laugh in unison.
Elyana scoped another, and as time flew, they had already consumed almost half of the cake. Elyana felt her hunger and let the cheesecake cure it too, because she hadn't had dinner. When Felicity found out, he nearly scolded her.
"Why haven't you eaten yet? Look at the time. It's nearly midnight," he asked.
"I was waiting for you, so we could have dinner together," Elyana answered, and her reason surpassed Felicity's anger, putting him in silence because it was him—the reason.
Elyana went back to eating the cheesecake. While Felicity watched her, he remembered something she said and spilled it to clear up the information. "Did you say a while ago that he was using a local SIM card number?"
"Yes, it was a local number," she answered while maintaining her eyes on the cheesecake she was munching. "I thought it was you; that's why I answered it, and I wish I hadn't," she added, raising her head.
"And what if he suddenly showed up?" Felicity directly asked.
Elyana looked away and thought for a second.
"Do you think he was telling the truth that he only wanted to tell me something important?" Elyana returned as her answer.
"That's something out of my knowledge, girl."
"It's strange that he thought of going here when he hated the Philippine weather. I couldn't convince him before to come with me, and because he didn't like it, I didn't insist anymore," Elyana uttered. "Do you think what he wanted to say was something important?"
"Like I said, I don't know yet; it doesn't mean he came here for some useless things, right?" Felicity responded, and just like Elyana, he was starting to get curious.
"Do you want to know the answer to that?"
"I'm not sure—what I'm sure of; I don't want to see him."
"What if he insists and does something just to talk to you? Like begging or following you around like a creep while he's here in the country?" he paused and later added, "That's going to be more stressful, you know?"
Elyana's face turned serious. "And what if he also just came to hurt me with what he wanted to say?" she asked him.
"Well, for the way you cried awhile ago, it appeared you hadn't healed yet from him. If he came to hurt you once again, that would only add to the pain, and you could heal those all at once," Felicity replied, convincing her and Elyana to notice it.
"What's the fuzz with you? Why does it seem you're taking his side?"
"I'm not, girl. I'm just showing you both sides of it," he lied. "I'll come with you. If he hurts you again, I'll make him bald right in front of you," he continued while raising his eyebrow at its peak.
"As if!" Elyana gazed at him.
"Dare me, girl! I will bring a razor and shave off all his hair, I swear!" he yelled, shivering in anger while imagining how he would do it if ever.
Elyana was impressed with her best friend's courage. She knew he would do that for her. There were many times their friendship had been tested, and she knew how much she could trust Felicity to get convinced.
