Chapter 39
Third-Person POV
Felicity lied about where he was going; instead of going to his room, he followed Quintin to the living room. Just like Elyana, he got curious about the person calling Quintin, and he listened to his gut feelings that it was something he needed to know.
Quintin answered the call, but before pressing accept on the screen, he made sure there was no one around that could see or hear him, and he didn't see Felicity hiding in the corner.
"What are you doing there?!" An angry man asked the other line right after he heard a tone indicating his call had connected.
"Where?" Quintin asked coldly. He pretended not to know what he was asking.
"You're with my wife again, Quintin. What are you doing there in their house?" The man on the line furiously asked.
"Correction, Wilhem, she's your ex-wife. I think you forgot, but wait—how did you know I'm here? And what do you mean by again?" Quintin frowned as he emphasized every word coming out of his mouth.
"That's not your business, Generoso. I asked first, so answer my question." Lucas was full of authority, but Quintin was not the type of guy who would easily fold at anyone.
"Who are you to get an answer right away? I'm not one of your dogs, but if you're curious why I'm here—well, I'm having dinner with Elyana, and for you to know—we were having fun here," Quintin replied, grinning devilishly because he knew that moment was the start of something and he likes playing games with his business rival.
Lucas adjusted his seat when he heard what Quintin said; however, he wouldn't let a Generoso get to his nerves that fast especially at that time he wanted to know what he was in Elyana's life.
"I couldn't believe you have a taste in things I like and used to like, Mr. Generoso." Quintin clenched his fist and tightened his grip on the cell phone because of what Lucas uttered. It was too insulting for him when he considered Elyana a thing.
Quintin's blood pressure immediately rose. If Lucas had been in front of him at that time, he would surely have punched him straight in the face, but because he didn't have a choice yet, he clenched his fist at that time. He immediately thought of a different plan that would annoy the h*ll out of Lucas, and the hunch that it seemed Lucas was following Elyana's every move was something that made things more exciting for him.
"Honestly, no. It only happened that I knew what's valuable; that's why I'm trying to save it," Quintin figuratively answered.
He heard Lucas's heavy sigh that made him grin on the line, yet that grin disappeared when he heard what Lucas said next.
"I see—you're having dinner with her, so does that also mean you both are dating or you have a relationship with Elyana's gay friend; that's why you're often with that gay as well?"
Quintin wanted to laugh at Lucas's accusation, but he stopped himself. Instead, he tried to remain calm to make Lucas believe in his response.
"The second one is impossible because I'm straight. So, what do you think about the first?"
Lucas gritted his teeth. "You don't know what you're doing, Generoso. What do you think Elyana's parents will do once they find out what kind of person you are?"
Quintin's smile widened. He seemed to be enjoying what he was doing.
"I knew that possibility, but I'm not afraid of that. Why? What kind of person do you think I am, Wilhelm? I may be a playboy, but I don't have a wife that I'm cheating on. I may play with fire, but I'm not like you who would break a vow just to be with another woman."
Even though the two were miles apart, they could feel the storm brewing between them. They knew that they had the same stench and habits, but neither of them wanted to lose in any challenge.
"Maybe, but—"
"Get straight to the point; what do you need, Wilhelm?" Quintin interrupted him.
"Nothing; I'm just checking things," Lucas answered, even though it was obvious that he wanted something else to know.
"Alright then, I guess we're done talking," Quintin replied, and even though he heard Lucas speak again, he ignored it and ended the call.
He turned around and was about to go back to where he left the two, but he halted. He saw Felicity standing right behind him, and the matchmaker was looking at him with furious eyes.
"The heck, Felicity!" Quintin's chest heaved, and thankfully he didn't scream in shock. His heart nearly jumped out of his chest at that moment, and Felicity's gaze gave him some chills.
"What does he want?" Felicity asked. His nose seemed to be smoky with anger. Quintin's eyes wandered, checking if Elyana was around.
"Where is she?" he inquired to make sure.
"I left her in the garden. I don't think she followed," Felicity replied. "What does that b*stard want?"
"He didn't tell me, but I have a feeling he's spying on her. He knew I was here and who she's mostly with, and to think he also knew I used to visit you was surprising too," Quintin answered.
"Nonsense," Felicity said emphatically.
"I agree. Shall I tell her?"
"Don't—in the current situation, I don't think she still needs to know."
"Okay, I won't," Quintin promised.
They decided to go back, but Felicity let Quintin go first so they wouldn't look suspicious. Quintin started walking; however, when he finally took a few steps away, the matchmaker called him.
"Hey!" Quintin immediately turned to look back.
"Thank you for caring about Elyana," the matchmaker uttered.
Quintin smiled. "No problem," he replied, and he continued walking after that.
Felicity remained standing. He was intrigued by the true reason Lucas called and began to wonder if there had been someone suspicious around them recently. As he thought for a moment, one person crossed his mind—none other than the foreign national he saw at the restaurant where he accidentally stumbled upon Elyana and Quintin once.
"Could it be him?" he murmured as he tried to recall every physical detail about the person he remembered.
