Chapter 58
Third-person's POV
During the gift-giving at Begum's Mansion, a furious Lucas boarded a private plane back home. He left the auction right in the middle of it without giving so much damn about whatever item they would put in front for bidding.
He had a feeling Diane had already left and gone back to London after he saw her, so in case he called and asked where she had been, she could lie to him by proving he hadn't been at the event.
A car was already waiting for him at the airport. When he arrived, he told the driver to take him to an address where Diane's parents reside, but Diane was not there.
"What happened, Lucas? Why did it seem like my daughter did something terrible to you?" Diane's dad asked Lucas.
Lucas took a deep breath and contemplated for a moment. I was thinking about whether to tell Diane's father how his daughter used the exposed result of his infertility to blackmail him.
"Tell me, Lucas. I know she did something, but I want to hear it from you too." Lucas raised his head and looked at the old man while frowning. According to what he said, he found the strength to tell him everything.
"I-I knew it…" the old man stammered. He looked away and bowed his head out of shame before continuing, "I've always been scared that Diane might hurt people because of the way she behaves. I know she would do everything just to get everything she wants, but what she did was too much."
"I don't think a normal person could do such things to anyone—"
"I understand what you're trying to imply," the old man interrupted. "I know where she is," he added, and he gave Lucas the hotel and room number where she booked just that day.
Lucas headed to the hotel, and right on walking out of the elevator, he saw Diane.
"L-Lucas?" Diane immediately noticed the angry expression on Lucas's face. Her hands started shaking in fear of what he came for there, and because of how nervous she was, she dropped the car keys she was holding on the ground.
She picked it up. When she stood back straight, Lucas was already near her, and their eyes met. Diane tried to compose herself; she let out a smile and was about to ask what he needed when Lucas suddenly grabbed her arm.
"Let's talk inside the room," Lucas uttered with full authority.
"T-talk about what? I-I'm about to meet my friends," she lied, but Lucas didn't believe it.
Lucas pulled her with so much force. "Hey! W-what is your problem?" she asked, trying to pull her arm out of his grip, but Lucas held her arm tighter.
"Open the door!" Lucas ordered her when they reached the front door of the room where Diane checked in.
"H-how can I if you're holding my arm this tight?" Diane replied and suddenly felt the loosening of Lucas's grip.
She opened her small handbag and took out a card. She walked close to the door and slid the card next to the door handle. When Lucas heard a beep sound, he immediately grabbed Diane's arm again, and before she could react, they were already inside the room, and the door was shut.
She almost lost her balance with what he did. Good thing Lucas didn't let go of her arm right away, yet the bad thing was that he dragged her into the living room and pushed her body onto the L-shaped sofa.
Diane fell. With this amount of force, her body bounced on its softness.
She did not expect Lucas to be able to do that. When she looked at Lucas to confront him about it, she was overcome by the man's gaze. Diane could not even look him in the eyes because she was so terrified. It was clear to her how much trouble she was in at the time when he appeared unexpectedly, and he did not hesitate to hurt her in that way.
"W-what do you want?" Diane asked nervously. She sat on the sofa to face the man who came.
"I know you know the reason why I'm here, Diane! Stop pretending you didn't know! You saw me at that event! Stop playing games with me!" Lucas yelled at her.
He was clenching his fists, trying to maintain his sanity because of the madness he was feeling for the woman sitting before him. Diane looked away. Her knees were trembling.
She didn't mean to show up that way at the event. She didn't plan for Lucas to see her there; that was all Quintin's fault. He told Lucas she was there around, and for that same reason, she was cursing him in her mind.
However, even though she knew about that already, she didn't want to confess that she was there at that event.
"W-what are you talking about? What event? I didn't—"
"Liar!" Diane froze in fear when Lucas shouted at her. He was pointing his finger at her with madness all over his face. "I saw you with my own eyes! Don't you dare lie to me, Diane!" Lucas continued.
"B-but I wasn't there. I was with my friends today," she reasoned, but Lucas didn't believe her.
"Someone else saw you, and he could prove that on your face right now!"
"Who?" Diane acted clueless.
"Genereso did," he firmly answered. Lucas was about to take his phone out of his pocket to call Quintin's number, but Diane suddenly said something that made him change his mind.
"So what if I was there?" she asked without even batting an eye. Lucas stared back at her with his eyebrow raised. "I was there because I was invited just like you. I didn't gate crush the event," she added to escape, yet she still couldn't make him believe it.
Just a little bit more, and Lucas's patience would break; however, there were still some things he wanted to know from her, and that was how Diane knew she went to the Philippines.
"How did you find out I went to see her?" This question had a hint of panic that almost made Diane's tongue retract.
There was pain in her eyes the moment he opened up this topic, but Lucas didn't care to notice, and even though she knew her voice would break, she still forced herself to answer. 'I-I have sources—"
"Who?" As soon as Lucas got that answer, another one immediately followed.
"I-I hired someone," she replied with a low voice, but the truth was, she was there by herself. She was there following Lucas, and she witnessed the mess that took place in the restaurant.
"Can I leave now? I already answered your question," Diane asked Lucas when she felt things would end somewhere else.
"I don't believe you paid someone," Lucas uttered with a grin. "What are you plotting this time, Diane?"
Diane got caught off guard at that moment. When it comes to the plot, she had many, yet she had no intentions of telling anyone. Especially the man before her. She knew her previous tactics would no longer affect Lucas, so he wanted to change her ways.
"Answer me!" Lucas yelled when he no longer couldn't wait for another lie from her.
