Chapter 61
I did not wait for anyone to say anything else. I dashed to the front door and went to the garage before our visitors arrived, and as soon as I was in the driveway, a car drove inside.
Our driveway was wide, so I didn't need to pull over first to let them pass. I knew that car; it was Elyana's new red Mercedez. When I exited the gate, I breathed a sigh of relief. It made me think I was a fleeing criminal because the cops were already on the scene.
When I arrived at the restaurant, there were no signs of Quintin. I expected that already because I left home quite early and I remembered I didn't tell him what time he should come. While waiting for him, I took that time to think.
I thought of going to my condo that day. Elyana and her parents would surely stay the whole day there because they would be discussing Pretzel and Felix's wedding.
Quintin arrived at 11:30 a.m. I thought I would see the annoyance on his face because I forced him to come to the restaurant, but he seemed happy when he saw me sitting inside the restaurant.
"I have things to tell you!" Quintin exclaimed while approaching my table. He quickly pulled a chair across from me and sat down with so much excitement all over his face, like something interesting was happening, and he couldn't wait to tell me.
"It seems intriguing," I muttered, moving my body forward on the table to hear what he was about to spill.
"I saw Lucas and Diane at the event I went to," he started, which made me roll my eyes.
I thought it was really exciting, but those shameless people were the topic.
"I'm not interested," I uttered before he could add more to what he was about to tell me. Maybe they saw them as sweet, like newlyweds.
"No, listen first. This is something really interesting!" he insisted. "You won't believe what happened at the event," he continued without waiting for me to tell him to go on.
I admit that I was curious deep down, but I could not deny that I was still upset with the two for what they did to my best friend.
While he was telling the story, I could see the fun in his eyes. It might sound exaggerated, but the way he laughed while sharing what happened was proof he did have fun exposing Diane.
"For sure, those people fought," he laughed. "They were like crazy people. You should have seen both of their faces," he continued, letting out another chuckle.
It showed Diane had been following Lucas. It made me conclude he knew he went to see Elyana and it seemed the two had already broken up for him to have the guts to visit Elyana and try to win her back.
Diane sounded extremely suspicious to me. If Diane knew that Lucas came from the Philippines, she might know where Elyana resides.
Those two seemed like a good fit; both have detective blood in them.
"What are you thinking?" Quintin's sudden question quite stunned me. That took me out of deep thinking, but it bothered me when I saw how Quintin's expression shifted.
"Something wrong?" I immediately asked while looking intently at him. The excitement disappeared and was replaced by worry.
Quintin looked away. "There's something about her," I uttered, trying to guess what was on his mind and I was shocked that I was right.
"Honestly, there is," he agreed, but with his tone, he had certainty.
I stared intently at him to hear what he was about to say next. He appeared to know more and by that time, I understood how much we needed to worry about the woman.
"Diane appeared to be mentally deranged. According to a trusted source, she's been under medication for years now. She's not mentally stable and we could consider her someone dangerous as well," he answered while looking far away.
Quintin took a deep breath before returning his gaze to me and after a few seconds of pausing, he continued, "We need to protect Elyana from anything she would plot soon."
I was impressed. Quintin cared about Elyana enough to find an answer to what was wrong with Diane.
"By the way, Felicity, Elyana asked me something—do you two have a problem?" Quintin asked out of nowhere.
I didn't expect his question and at that time, it was my turn to look away, changing the topic too. "Let's proceed with the plan I came up with."
"Hey! Don't dare try to avoid my question; she seemed so worried about you because she thought she did something wrong for you to ignore her like that—well, not how she put it, but for her it felt like you were trying to avoid her." Quintin made me lower my head. I felt ashamed about the reason for that.
I was speechless for a moment, and the idiot took advantage of the opportunity to continue giving me news. "She even told me that maybe she is just paranoid because she thinks you are distancing yourself. Elyana is clueless about what is going on, and for someone who knows you well, I am sure she noticed something that seems wrong. So—why?"
The way Quintin posed that question made me feel uncomfortable. He conducted an ambush interview that caught me off guard, and I knew he would not stop until he got a valid answer.
I had no intention of telling him; however, whispers in the back of my mind suggested that sharing it with him would not cost me anything, but I'm certain I would—my dignity and femininity.
"Can I take your orders now, sir—ma'am?" I was saved by the waiter. I was about to say something when a waiter appeared to ask for our orders.
Quintin was very disappointed because of the sudden approach of the waiter. When I was delighted, he walked by in time and he gave me enough opportunity to contemplate.
I adjusted my seat to make it more comfortable on the chair and while Quintin looked at the menu, I took the time to consider what to tell Quintin and what was not because his question was too personal for me.
When the waiter was gone, I made up my mind and thought about what to tell him.
