Chapter 14
‘No, it's still early to show up,' I thought. I observed him take a sip of the wine. It was very amusing to watch him do so.
The women around him couldn't help but look, even the older ones not far from his table turned their heads in his direction. Couldn't blame them though; Quintin has good looks, and elegance, and has potential in modeling. He's the type of man who could make a woman open her legs wide in just a wink, but he's not the type that would make me fall to my knees.
As I watched him from the tinted window of the car, I suddenly remembered Felix. Because of Felicity and her problem, I forgot to stop by Felix's office to apologize for the bad words I said about the girl who he impregnated. Although she deserved all those things, I wanted to be nice so Felix wouldn't think I was being mean to the mother of his child, but after that, I didn't know what I could do next.
Ten minutes before eight that night, I finally decided to get out of the car. The driver was glancing at me from the rearview mirror. Looking impatient, and wondering why it took me so long to get off.
'You can go home now. I'll just call you when I need a ride home," I ordered before getting out of the car. I still heard him answer, but it wasn't clear in my ears anymore because I was already outside and about to shut the door. I walked straight to the open door. A woman greeted me politely as I entered.
'Good evening, ma'am. Do you have a reservation?" she asked while tapping the screen of the tablet to turn it on.
'Yes, I have. I'm with Quintin Generoso." I answered with a smile, but when she heard the name of the person I was with, the sweet smile on her lips surprisingly disappeared. I could see disappointment right in her eyes. She tried to put back that smile, but she failed because her eyes could speak.
'H-He's already inside, ma'am. This way, please." With the way she stuttered as she spoke, I knew I had made her uncomfortable. I followed her even though I already knew where Quintin was sitting. Let us let her do her job as a courtesy to their guests. While we were walking, people were turning their heads toward us, and some men's necks almost broke when I tried raising my left hand.
'Men's curious minds," I whispered while looking into one of them as he watched my hips sway with lust in his eyes. A few more steps, and we finally reached him. Right when we stopped in front of his table and the woman excused herself, Quintin immediately stood with a slight frown on his face.
'Hi! I'm very sorry for being late, I got stuck in the traffic." I apologized. What an excuse, isn't it? There were a few seconds of silence between us before he managed to speak.
'I-I actually don't mind," he uttered. 'So, you are Elyana?"
'Yes, Elyana Begum," I replied as I extended my hand.
'Oh, nice to meet you, Elyana." He took my hand and shook it.
I was the one who let go first, and I guess he felt, which caused him to let go in an instant while saying this, 'I guess you already know my name through Felicity—"
'Well, yes. He told me so many things about you." I interrupted him by answering right away. We didn't need those kinds of formalities anyway, as I've said, I didn't come here to be nice to him.
'Right, sure he did. With all the information he has about me. Silly me!" He tried to look cool, but in my eyes, he was just a trying-hard clown. I gave him a sly smile.
'Have a seat." He pulled me a chair.
I thought we would just stand and talk the whole night. He sat in the chair across from me.
'Let's order some food," he said, and without waiting for my answer, he waved his hand to the waiter.
After ordering, I noticed he was having a hard time starting a conversation. I was not sure if he was just too shy to speak up or if there was something he could say or ask because of the confusion.
He seemed confused to me based on the frown on his face because being shy doesn't fit that man at all.
'Anything wrong, Mr. Generoso?" I asked to get his attention. He stared at me and looked away.
'S-Sorry, I'm just trying to remember where I saw you. It seems I did," he apologetically explained.
I chuckled out of disbelief. He was clueless about who I was Well, that day wasn't the first time. Quintin and my ex-husband are both in the same field. I saw Quintin a few times at some events in England.
'So you're saying you didn't recognize me?" I speculated. His eyebrows furrowed even more, and his eyes slightly narrowed.
'Y-Yes, but seriously, have we met before?"
'Well, yeah. Aside from this morning, we already met a couple of times at some parties in England."
'E-England? A-are you serious? Where exactly and whose party?" It was evident from his reaction how eager he was to know all the answers to those questions. Quite amusing from him.
'In some business gatherings, I was with someone during those events, and I know you know that person very well," I responded. I felt uncomfortable.
Wishing he wouldn't try asking who, but— 'W-Who?" I knew it.
'L-Lucas Wilhems—" He thought for a moment. 'I know who Lucas Wilhems is. Most of the time, he arrives at a party with his wif—" He paused and looked at me with both his eyes wide open.
I knew how unbelievable that incident was. I wasn't expecting it either, but after reading his files and realizing who he was, I almost ditched him.
'That was me, but let me correct it, I'm now his ex-wife."
His lips parted at what I said. 'H—How come? When? I mean, I can't believe it ended that way—but you know, I'm glad somehow." This raised my eyebrows.
'Now, you're the unbelievable one. Why did you seem so glad? It's tragic."
'Well, I know. It's sad, but I'm just glad because, knowing him and what he was doing, he doesn't deserve to have a wife." In such a way that I didn't know whether to be sad or happy. He seemed to know something about what Lucas had been doing, and thinking he knew something for a long time made me feel mad deep inside.
'You seemed to know some things, mister," I couldn't stop my mouth from saying this. I was just curious, but at the same time, I felt I no longer needed to know those things he knew. What I knew was enough, and that ends there.
'I don't think you still need to know. We both came here to get to know each other for what I remember, not to talk about other people, especially that a**h*le. Let's just try to enjoy the night." He was right.
