Chapter 64
Elyana's POV
It was Christmas, but I felt gloomy, even though everyone seemed to be having fun. I was expecting to see Felicity, but he abruptly left. I tried to blend and match their energies, but I could not because they were discussing married life and how to properly raise a child.
The subjects they discussed made me feel out of place, which is why I simply listened and smiled whenever they turned their heads at me. However, I thought maybe I would learn some useful tips that I could use in the future, but the sadness inside my heart for not receiving any greetings from my best friend was something that broke me.
I was glad there were kids around at that time. Felix and Pretzel's son were there, as was Lea's youngest, who were both inside a huge crib.
When the topic went to Felix and Pretzel's upcoming wedding, I simply approached the kids but acting, I picked up the toy that went outside the crib to give it back to them.
I let the kids distract me while they held a meeting. They were talking about the things they wanted to replace and my parents were all out helping by giving advice and offering assistance.
I knew I was not needed there, which is why I chose to go away. I pulled a chair and sat next to the crib and tried playing with them when all of a sudden I saw Felix gesturing his hand.
I frowned because I couldn't understand what he was trying to tell me. He was pointing his other hand in the direction where they went out while his other hand held his bride-to-be's hand, yet when I thought about his twin, my heart jumped in excitement.
I sprinted to where Felix pointed and right after entering the door, I saw my best friend standing at the corner, holding a saucer with lasagna while looking far away.
'I miss this b*tch!' I thought to myself. I thought he would never come back that day and he would spend Christmas working.
I walked closer. When he realized that I was near, he suddenly stood up straight and I noticed how he seemed to panic.
I wanted to think maybe he did not expect it to see me, but with how he reacted, it appeared to be something else when he suddenly averted his gaze and put his unfinished food on the counter.
I swallowed and tried to erase some thoughts from my head. Nervousness and the fear of Felicity turning his back on me struck me.
"Merry Christmas!" I greeted him loudly; even my voice nearly broke at that time.
I wanted to hug him, but before I could do so, he moved away and grabbed his saucer to give it to the servant. I was alarmed that he might be leaving already. I thought of my gift and I used that to stop him.
"Wait, bestie! I'll get you my present!" I reluctantly said. I quickly went to the living room, where I left it, and returned holding a medium-sized gift, wrapped neatly with a big fushia pink ribbon on top.
"Here! Merry Christmas!" I smiled from ear to ear while handing it to him. I knew he would love what I bought him, but that smile on my lips vanished when his answer was something low and lame.
"Thank you," he answered, but it was too empty. My high energy level dropped abruptly.
The response was too cold, and when he took the box and placed it on the counter, it was as if he was saying I shouldn't have to bother myself buying him anything.
My chest got heavy as I looked into the gift he placed on the counter.
"Is there something wrong?" I asked with a frown.
Felicity looked at me with the same face, frowning.
"Is there anything?" he answered me a question. He smiled, but I knew it was fake. He even flipped his hand after putting the fork on the plate he was holding after eating the last small portion of lasagna that was left on it.
He walked to the sink, where two servants were still washing utensils. Felicity handed it to one of the servants, who came forward to take it from him.
'Why does he have so much energy and I don't?' I couldn't help but ask myself as I watched him.
I suddenly lost the desire to talk to him. I knew there was something he didn't want to open, but I couldn't remember anything that I did for him to treat me like that.
My heart sank. It was Christmas and my parents were there. Everyone was having a good time and if I started arguing with Felicity, that would ruin everyone's day.
I returned to the garden, walking dumbfounded, and sat down on the same chair near the crib where the two kids were playing. I turned my back in the direction where my parents were sitting with the others.
I sat there for a few minutes, breathing slowly as I tried to decrease the heaviness I was feeling inside my chest.
"Hey, what happened?" I almost jumped on the seat when a soft voice suddenly spoke behind me.
I slowly turned my head, only to find out it was Pretzel. I thought it was Lea and what surprised me the most was that Pretzel was looking worried while looking into my eyes.
Her soft voice was calming. Like a soft tap on my shoulder, urging me to cry, but Pretzel is not yet a friend, so I just let her see my weak side and I was not a kid to cry about someone who doesn't want to talk to me anymore. If she found that reason, she would certainly laugh at me.
I faked a smile, but in a nick of seconds, my chin started shaking. It seemed Pretzel knew what was about to happen. "Come, let's go over there for a moment."
