Chapter 48.1
Third-Person's Point of View
Never in her wildest dreams did she expect to hear Lucas's voice ever again after their divorce. At that time, it felt like somebody had poured a bucket of ice-cold water right on her head. She could feel the strong coldness creeping from her head down to her toes. Her heartbeat changed, and it was pounding like there was a rumble.
Almost no words came out of her mouth because of the nervousness she was feeling at that time—more of a surprise mixed with anger that she was thinking of hurting the person on the other side of the line. Her chest started feeling heavy. Every breath increased the heaviness that later on felt like choking to death.
They were both momentarily lost in the present, and Lucas was unable to use his courage to speak immediately, making Elyana think of ending the call because it was only a waste of her time.
She also thought he was already gone, but because she heard a noise from the other line, she was sure that the caller was still there, just being stupid enough to speak.
Seconds later, it turned to minutes, and Elyana was about to hang up when Lucas suddenly spoke from the other line.
"Please don't end the call—I just want to tell you I'm here in the Philippines," Lucas uttered.
uttered's face clearly showed no interest in what he had said. She tried to let out a word even though her chest felt like it was about to explode.
"S-so?" she said coldly.
"Can we meet?" Lucas nervously asked. His voice had traces of sadness that Elyana ignored.
The only thing noticeable for her at that time was the heaviness she had inside her heart. She thought that the pain had already disappeared and that she was fully healed from her ex-husband's betrayal.
Elyana tried to weigh in the difference and realized there was no difference.
"W-Why are you here?" she asked weakly. Just enough for the person on the other line to hear while hoping he wouldn't notice her voice was shaking.
"I came to see y—"
"Don't lie to me! W-why brings you here?" Elyana's voice was powerful. She tried to remain in her composure, although she knew any moment she would break down into tears.
"I'm telling the truth, Ellie. I came here to see you. I have something important to tell you," Lucas answered, convincing her with his good intentions, but Elyana didn't believe him.
"I-I don't w-want to see you—" Elyana firmly replied, and before she could break down, she ended that call and threw herself on the bed while letting her feelings explode out of her chest.
Talking to Lucas was more like tasting a familiar poison that killed her once, and she didn't want to taste it again or touch it.
Elyana covered her mouth to stop the sobbing from coming out. She suddenly thought of her best friend, who still hadn't come home since lunch. She wanted to talk to him. To report and get comfort, but he wasn't around, and she didn't know where she could find him.
Elyana let her tears run down her cheeks. She heard Lucas' words and the purpose for which he called; however, she didn't care what those were.
regrets answering the unfamiliar number. For her, whoever gave her number deserved some lectures from her, but compared to the fury she had for the person who gave her ex-husband her number, it wasn't greater than the anger she had for Lucas.
Elyana wanted to sign him in the face, to hurt him using all her strength that she didn't have a chance of doing the day she saw him with a woman on the bed.
The reason she heard from the man was enough to cut off any ties they had, and whatever he wanted to say, she knew it was useless.
'Did he just want to say that he and Diane are getting married, and the woman convinced him to take a vacation in the Philippines for what? Criticize the people, the weather, and the places they visited—to insult me? What!?" She cried silently.
The pain they brought her was enough for her to let them be happy in each other's company. She already gave up on those marriage vows she uttered on their wedding day for Lucas's sake.
They didn't have anything to talk about. She was done with him—with them.
Felicity arrived and found her crying on the bed. She buried her face in the pillow to decrease the loud cries.
"E-Ellie?" Felicity rushed towards the bed. He put the box of cheesecake Eugene gave to his best friend. He climbed the stairs thinking he would surprise her, but with what he saw, he was the one who did.
"W-what happened to you, girl?" he asked worriedly.
He tried pulling her to make her sit on the bed, and when he saw his face wet with her tears, he instantly concluded what happened.
"Oh, no. Not now…" he whispered.
Elyana sniffed after she felt it was getting hard to breathe. She continued crying, and it got louder when she heard her best friend.
"Your nose is full, girl," Felicity commented. He was quite disgusted because he was about to pull her closer to hug her. Luckily, she sniffed first, and Felicity rushed to the bathroom to get her some tissue paper.
"Here," he handed her some of those he ripped from the roll. Elyana took it and sneezed on it, making Felicity wince.
He gave her some more, and just like the first sneeze, the tissue got full immediately. She calmed down, and he waited for her to compose herself first before asking her again.
"What happened to you?" he asked as she sat on the chair he pulled close to the bed where Elyana remained seated.
He waited for her answer, but the moment Elyana tried to speak, her tears started falling down her cheeks again. She cried, and for Felicity, watching his best friend cry in pain was breaking his heart.
Felicity transferred to the bed and sat next to Elyana. "Come here, girl," he said, pulling her close to wrap her in his arms.
"H-he called…" Elyana mumbled as she continued crying, burying her face in Felicity's chest and wrapping her arms around his body
"Who?" Felicity inquired, although he already had a clue as to who it was.
