Chapter 81
Third-person's Point of View
"Elyana is showing pre-eclampsia symptoms. She underwent a urine test a while ago and it has too much protein in it. Her blood pressure is too high at the moment. I'd been observing her recently and she was feeling the other symptoms. Aside from those, she was bleeding when she came here a while ago. I already gave her medicine to relieve those and she's under my observation," Doctor Chelsea informed him.
Felicity was the first person Chelsea told about her findings. Even Elyana still didn't know.
"What would happen to her and the baby if…if?" Felicity worriedly asked. He couldn't find the right word to complete his question, but she already understood what he wanted to imply.
"Most likely, she would give birth prematurely," Chelsea directly answered.
"So you're saying, she will give birth even though the baby is only six months old right now?" Felicity was quite confused at this moment.
"Yes. I might need to put her into an emergency delivery. The pain she's currently feeling right now is near labor pain," Chelsea answered.
"Oh gosh!" Felicity gasped. He already knew how painful that was. His older sister already gave birth twice and she bluntly described to him how painful she felt during the delivery.
"That's all I can share with you. I need to go back to Elyana to explain what is happening to her but wait, was the call last night real? She was feeling it?" the doctor said. She tried sorting things inside her head as to what she remembered from what Felicity told her on the phone.
"Oh, wait! Did you both—"
"Stop imagining things, Chelsea. That's not the right time for that," Felicity nagged as his face flushed red.
"I know, but I'm a doctor so I need information," she insisted.
Felicity rolled his eyes before being forced to tell what happened and he surprisingly saw disappointment in the doctor's face after she learned nothing happened to the two.
"Oh, what a waste," she muttered.
"What did you say?" Felicity asked after not hearing it.
"I said I should go," she lied and she immediately turned her back to him to go back to Elyana.
Felicity stayed where Chelsea left him. I am still trapped in countless thoughts that lead to fear. He felt weak on his knees, doubting if he could walk while in that state, but the thought that Elyana might need him at that time made him push himself to his limit.
He managed to go back to where he left his best friend. Chelsea was about to leave at this time and Elyana had already stopped crying. Although she only seemed well after the medicine given to her.
Felicity remained standing on the side of a metal pole where beds were lined up. All rooms were separated by thick curtains to give patients and medical assistants privacy.
While standing on that side, Felicity saw how Elyana gently caressed her stomach, and he heard her whisper, "Don't come out yet, sweetheart. Even though I'm too excited now to meet you, it's not the perfect time yet."
He was moved by what he witnessed. 'I will protect both of you, I promise,' he murmured before walking closer to Elyana to ask how she was feeling.
Elyana felt completely better as the hours passed. Her parents, however, refused to immediately send her home. They requested a private room for their daughter and allowed her to be discharged the next day.
She was given several new prescriptions. She was advised to change her diet, and since the day she was admitted to the hospital, all her movements in and out of the mansion have been monitored.
In her seventh month of pregnancy, things got more complicated, yet, Chelsea was certain that the child would not be born yet. However, two weeks before the baby turned eight months old inside, everyone in the mansion woke up to Elyana's agonizing scream.
Felicity was the first to hear because Elyana's room was directly across from the guest room where he was sleeping. He bolted, terrified. He immediately thought that something bad had happened.
"F-Felicity," Elyana called his name softly when the door to her room suddenly opened.
She writhed in agony. Elyana had no idea where to hold it, whether in his stomach or hip because the pain she was experiencing seemed to be spinning.
Felicity didn't think twice and lifted her from the bed. He did not ask any more questions after seeing Elyana's expression. It also did not matter how heavy she was or how much pain his back would get later
On the stairs, he ran into the reluctant servants. Their eyes were equally wide while witnessing how the gay matchmaker carried their boss into his arms.
"Ma'am Felicity is so strong," one of them uttered.
"Am I dreaming? Why did Ma'am Felicity seem straight right now?" another one of them asked.
"Get my keys!" Felicity shouted at them. They completely woke up to Felicity's loudness. Daldalita was the first to run upstairs to get the key inside Felicity's bag, just as he ordered.
"I-It hurts..." Elyana uttered. Her one arm was wrapped around Felicity's neck. Her hand was right on his back and moved lower. She pulled Felicity's skin right after feeling extreme pain.
They were right on the last step of the stairs when it happened. Felicity was already panting and sweating because Elyana was quite heavy. He nearly screamed when he felt it, but realizing how much pain Elyana had been feeling at that time gave him no right to complain.
He continued his phase and reached the garage. "Where is my key?!" Felicity asked loudly to make sure the servants behind them heard him.
"Here, ma'am!" Daldalita rushed in front of him, clutching the key.
"Press the button," he ordered the servant, who quickly did as he said. Everyone was terrified as Elyana screamed because her stomach hurt so much, and their fears were heightened when a maid noticed blood on Elyana's clothes.
Felicity quickly slid Elyana into the backseat after the car door opened.
"Felicity... my baby..." she sobbed as she sat.
"N-Nothing bad will happen," he said, even though the word was ambiguous. He got on board. He brought two servants with him to make sure there would be people looking after Elyana while he drove the car.
Felicity called Doctor Chelsea while they were on their way to the nearest hospital.
"I'm on my way now," she said, ending their call as well.
Felicity drove the car at high speed, but he made sure they would also arrive at the hospital safely. The two servants, who were not used to that speed while riding a car, clung and held tighter at anything they could hold on to inside the vehicle.
It only took them ten minutes to reach their destination. Chelsea already called the hospital to inform them about the incoming patient. Two nurses were already waiting and there were another two preparing everything the patient needed at that time.
The physician on duty at that time was also requested to give immediate attention to the patient while she was on her way. They immediately checked Elyana's blood pressure and heart rate. The same physician was checking the baby's condition when Chelsea arrived to take over.
"W-what is going on? Please tell me what is wrong with my baby, doctor?" Elyana begged in tears as she was still being examined.
The physician noticed the baby's heartbeat was weak and informed Chelsea when he arrived. When she examined it just to double-check, she found out the same.
"I-I believe it is time, Elyana; I need to perform an emergency C-section to save the baby before it is too late." Hearing this from the doctor made Elyana cry even more.
Her son was not prepared to go out yet. There were a few more weeks, but to learn the baby's life would be in danger, she didn't want to be stubborn for his sake.
"Do it, doctor. Please save my baby," she begged while crying.
Chelsea nodded. "I will. So trust me, you both are in safe hands." The doctor turned her back on her and immediately ordered the nurses to prepare the emergency room.
When the doctor was gone, Felicity approached Elyana. He reached for her hand and noticed a strong tremor. "Should I call your parents now?" he asked for permission.
Elyana weakly nodded. She could hardly talk because of the sobbing continuously coming out of her mouth. The couple booked a flight back to the Philippines for their daughter.
Elyana was admitted to the operating room to get ready for her surgery. Felicity stayed outside alone. He directed their two servants to summon their companions in the mansion to prepare things for Elyana and the baby.
Chelsea, who was already on her way to the operating room, saw the terrified-looking Felicity outside the closed door where Elyana was taken. had arrived
"Calm down." Felicity looked up at the person who spoke, who arrived unnoticeably.
"I'm trying here," he replied sparingly, even though his trembling of fear was evident in his voice.
"Just pray, Felicity and your baby and his mother will be fine," she told him before finally leaving him there all alone.
He knew he must get rid of those worries, but he didn't know how, and with no one around, he seemed to be going crazy.
He thought of his mother but got hesitant because he might only disturb her rest considering the time. He decided to leave him a message instead to make sure her sleep wouldn't get bothered.
As he waited there, he remembered Chelsea's words—about praying.
"L-Lord..." He was about to start, but he paused by biting his lips like something impossible came out of his mouth.
He thought he had already forgotten how to pray. It had been a long time since the last and he didn't remember anymore when that was
He bit his lower lip, feeling sorry for everything. Felicity knew how much danger giving birth has and because his child's life was in danger, he couldn't explain how much fear he was feeling, which made her eyes watery.
He leaned his head forward, arching his back in the same direction. He placed his elbows on both legs, clasping his hands together and there was a firmness in the grip that seemed to draw strength from it.
His forehead was pressed against his closed palms and the tears that were forming started falling down his cheeks.
"L-Lord," he started again. His voice was shaking at this moment, but he didn't care that much anymore. All he wanted was for his prayers to be heard and he couldn't rely on anyone else at that time but Him. "Lord, please... make my son and his mother safe. Please give Elyana strength because she needs it right now. Please take mine if you want and give it to her. Although I know I don't have that much, it's okay, dear Lord." he paused.
"Please, Lord, save my son. I will admit what I have done. I know in your eyes I am a sinner, but please... this is for my child and his mom—my best friend. Please help them. I will become a man if that is what you want in return to be worthy to be my son's father. Just give me time and I will change myself."
Felicity's mind was filled with images as he prayed. Elyana's joyful expression every time the child kicked inside her belly—those were very precious memories. He wouldn't bear to see Elyana sad again if they ever lost the baby.
'My precious child, please don't leave mommy and d-daddy.' he cried silently.
