Chapter 70
Elyana's POV
I went back to the mansion after going to the clinic. I was grateful for the good news I was carrying that day, but my tears wouldn't stop falling from my eyes.
Those tears blurred my vision while driving, yet I did my best to drive safely until I reached home. 'I am no longer alone,' I thought.
I finally had one precious gift inside my womb at the time so I needed to be careful with everything I did. I won't let that opportunity to be a mother slide into my palm.
When she reached the mansion, I saw one servant walking down the stairs. She was holding a duster and smiling brightly at me. "Good morning, Miss Elyana!" She greeted me.
I greeted her back with a smile. She moved on the side of the stairs to give me way, but I intended to force her to stop midway.
She moved to the other side again so I could pass by, but I blocked her again.
Her eyes widened when I suddenly hugged her. I saw those big eyes when I let go of her. I didn't say anything after and I sprinted up the stairs, leaving her lower steps on the stairs.
I was only delighted that day that everyone I would see would get a hug from me. But unfortunately, she was the only one I saw on my way to my room. Most of the servants during that time were in their designated section, doing their duty for that day.
When I reached my room, I immediately dialed my mother's number. After a few rings, it got connected, but she was not the person on the other line. "I have something so important to tell, Mom!" I exclaimed without waiting for her to say hello.
"What is it, princess? Your mom is still in the bathroom," I overheard Dad say.
I honestly wanted to talk to Mom first that day. To have a girl-to-girl talk, but it would have been way better and easier if Dad had heard the news first. Unlike Mom, I knew he was the calmest and wouldn't shower me with so many questions.
"What is it you want to say that you sounded excited about? I can tell her when she comes out," Dad uttered and the excitement inside my head started rousing up high again.
'Dad, I'm—"
"Who is that?" I was interrupted when I heard my mom's voice.
"It's Ellie," Dad answered. "Your mom is here now; what do you want to say, Ellie?" He returned to me. It made me swallow first before saying something because Mom was already around.
I was nervous. I felt something was blocking my chest, but it was not anything negative that I needed to scream or cry to let out. It was such extreme joy that I couldn't wait to tell them, but there was doubt and fear, thinking that one of them would surely get mad.
They were both in silence. I took that chance to reveal the good news to them. "Mom, Dad, I-I am pregnant," I softly uttered.
I heard whispering from the other line. They sounded like they were arguing and I heard my mother ask Dad what I just said, like she didn't hear anything.
"W-what did she say? Honey, what did Elyana say?" she stuttered.
"H-How? How did it happen?" Mom asked. Her voice broke, and the words coming out of her lips were not clear.
She seemed to be shaking at that time and I got magnetized by it and my eyes started watering as I heard her.
"Lucas said—"
"He lied to us," I interrupted. " I'm not infertile/just like what he told us. It was him who was there all those times," I briefly explained.
They both couldn't speak from the other line. I could hear my mother crying and Dad was comforting him.
I took that time to tell them how I found out. They would certainly ask anyway.
"He confessed about it. He was here last month. We talked and I found out from Felicity and after that, Bakla and I went to a trustworthy doctor to confirm it and it was real, Mom... Dad. I could be a mother and this—I am now." My voice was shaking as I explained how it happened.
"Ellie..." Dad whimpered.
"God," Mom murmured.
They were in silence. I knew it was unbelievable. I understood how they felt because I was also in the same situation the day I found out about it.
"B-but who is the father?" Mom asked, her voice still shaking.
'Here it is,' I thought. I already knew Mom would ask.
I let out a heavy sigh before answering with a lie. "Honestly, I don't know."
"What do you mean you don't know? That can't be, young lady!" Mom began to scold me.
"I honestly don't care anymore, Mom; what is more important to me is that I will be a mother soon, and I could make you both grandparents!" They fell silent again when I raised my voice.
I couldn't help it. What I did provoked my parents to argue.
It wasn't clear to my ears that they intentionally lowered their voice so I wouldn't hear anything from them. They seemed far from where they put the phone down, making it hard for me to understand what they were saying.
That took them a couple of minutes. I was in the nick of time to hang up when I suddenly heard Mom speak louder from the other line. "We need to go back, hon. Our daughter needs someone who will look after her," she said.
Hearing that made me answer. "Don't worry about that, mom. We have so many servants here who would look after me. I know they wouldn't let anything bad happen while you both are there."
"Your mom is right, sweetheart," Dad commented. His voice was low and soothing. They both finally calmed down.
"I know both of you are worried, but I'm old enough."
"We know, but it's not easy to be alone while pregnant. Are you sure you don't want us to know who your child's father is? We can find him. He can't just get a—"
"Dad, I'm certain that's not needed. I only need this child," I interrupted him.
I knew they could if they wanted to, but there was no need for that; besides, I already knew who.
While they were still on the other end of the line, I took a picture of my ultrasound and sent it to my parents. When I put my phone back near my ears, I heard how they reacted after seeing it.
"Oh my God, we're going to be grandparents, honey!" Mom exclaimed. "I want to tell all our friends about this!" she added and I instantly panicked.
"No, don't tell them yet," I heard Dad say. I was about to stop her, but luckily Dad already did.
I felt extreme relief. I deeply understand Mom's excitement, but that would only raise some questions. Curious minds would surely wonder. Something I didn't want to happen.
If they would ask me, I only wanted those closest to me to know the news.
"But why?" I heard Mom ask Dad.
"Just don't. Let our daughter decide when to announce this great news," Dad answered.
"Is that what you want, Ellie?" Mom asked, returning to me.
"Yes, Mom," I quickly answered with a smile.
"I will respect that, but we want to be there for you this time, sweetheart. I struggled when I was pregnant with you, that's why we know how hard this is going to be," Mom said, still insisting on coming home, but I already made up my mind.
"No, Mom. I'll be fine. Who knows, maybe this will only be too easy for me. If I couldn't, you are the first to know."
"Promise?" she asked in a sweet, motherly-concerned voice.
"I promise, Mom," I replied.
I said goodbye even though I could feel in their voices how heavy their hearts were because I didn't allow them to come home. There were busy people and they had so much to do after the long Christmas holiday they spent with me.
Besides, I knew I would be fine. I already have good friends around. There were trustworthy servants I could rely on, and God was there to guide me all the way.
